Tips
-
All US citizens, including minors, are required to present a valid passport for travel into Mexico. It is recommended to order passports at least 6 months before international travel.

San Miguel does not have a local airport. We will be flying into Querétaro International Airport and we highly recommend you do too.
Querétaro is about 55 miles (around 45 minutes to an hour drive) away from San Miguel.
Another option is flying into the Mexico City International Airport. This is a much further drive (3 hours).
-
To and from the airport:
The choice is yours! The drive from the airport is around 45 min- 1hr. There are many reliable shuttle services and private drivers. https://www.bajiogo.com/en/airport-shuttles
Around the city:
Walking- San Miguel is a very walkable city and we feel that this is the best way to get around and explore the city. Most places are within a 20-minute walk of the city center (Jardin Allende). Keep in mind that most streets have narrow sidewalks (if any) and cobblestone streets, so choose comfortable shoes.
Taxi/Uber: Taxis are always around, especially near the centro. Taxis are safe and reliable but be prepared to pay with pesos. Uber is available in San Miguel but can be slightly more expensive. We recommend going to your hotel lobby and asking the front desk/concierge to call a ride for you.

San Miguel de Allende is considered a safe travel destination. In fact, about 10% of the population are expats from America. It's one of the safest cities in Mexico and is often considered safer than some US cities. This magical city is a popular tourist destination with a low crime rate.
However, as with any city, it's important to be aware of your surroundings and take precautions to ensure your safety.
In case of an emergency, call 911.
-
Most places in San Miguel de Allende will allow you to charge a credit card in either dollars or pesos, but in markets or smaller shops and taxis, they may only accept cash, or have a credit card minimum. We recommend getting pesos from the ATM rather than changing money at a bank or changing services as rates will be better. There are 5 banks / ATMs in the Jardin (center of town).

Cell Phones: Check with your provider. Most cell services offer international plans. Be sure to set this up before your trip. Should your phone not work, most businesses have wifi, and your hotel/Airbnb certainly will.
Service: Maps Offline? Before your trip, try downloading the Google Maps app. Google Maps allows you to download a map of the city to use should your service not work in certain areas. (Hit the three bars on the top left corner and select “Offline Areas”. Select “Custom Area” and hit “Download” with the map of San Miguel)
*Note* There is service in San Miguel these are just tips should your phone not work in certain buildings/areas

The average temperatures for San Miguel in November for a typical day range from a high of 75°F to a low of 47°F. Be prepared for sunny days and chilly nights. The ceremony and reception will be outside so dress accordingly, if needed heaters will be provided.

Although you might encounter a handful of people who can speak English, we highly encourage you to try to speak Spanish! Don’t expect anyone to speak English, you’re in Mexico after all.
If you need help communicating, download the Google Translate app.
Worried about service? No prob!
When you download the app you can press the icon on the top right of the screen, press “downloaded languages”, and click “Spanish”. Speaking Spanish, even just a little, will allow you to connect with so many amazing locals on a deeper level. It's worth giving it a try!
